Overview
New York to Texas is one of the largest outbound moves in the country, and Quick Ship Van Lines runs it weekly. We coordinate full-service moves from New York City and its suburbs to every major Texas metro, matching you with licensed, carefully selected carriers who know both ends: Manhattan high-rises, Brooklyn brownstones, and Long Island homes on pickup, and Texas suburbs, downtown apartments, and new-build communities on delivery. You get upfront cubic-footage pricing, one coordinator from quote to delivery, and a realistic delivery window. Unlike most Sun Belt moves, this one can also change your tax bill, since Texas has no state income tax. See your price now with a free quote in 30–60 minutes.

May – September (summer rush; Texas heat peaks July – August)
Summer is the busiest window for moves out of New York, and Texas delivery days in July and August are very hot. Late spring and early fall usually bring the best rates and mild weather on both ends. Winter is cheaper, but snow along I-81 can add a day. Book a mid-month weekday 2–3 weeks ahead to lock in your date and price.
This is one of the few long-distance moves that can lower your tax bill. Here’s how the two states compare on what affects your budget:
Factor | New York | Texas |
Income tax | NY state tax up to 10.9%, plus NYC local tax of about 3.1%–3.9% | None — no state or city income tax |
Housing costs | Among the highest in the U.S., especially in NYC | Much lower in every major metro |
Property tax | Varies widely by county | Among the higher rates nationally — budget for it if you buy |
Sales tax | 8.875% in New York City | 6.25% state + up to 2% local (8.25% max) |
Climate | Four seasons, cold and snowy winters | Long, hot summers and mild winters |
Note: for many New Yorkers, no state income tax and lower housing costs outweigh Texas property taxes, but it depends on your income and whether you rent or buy. A tax professional can run your numbers. Your moving cost itself is based on inventory and distance.

Texas has been a top destination for people leaving New York for years, and the reasons are practical: no state income tax, homes that cost a fraction of NYC prices, and job markets that keep growing. Dallas has become a major finance hub, Houston leads in energy and medicine, Austin is a center for tech and startups, and San Antonio offers the lowest costs of the four. If you’re still comparing Sun Belt states, see our New York to Florida movers page; coming from the West Coast instead? Our California to Texas movers page covers that corridor.
Good to Know
Three things every New York to Texas mover should know before pickup day.
Texas gives new residents 30 days to register their vehicles and 90 days to get a Texas driver’s license. Texas dropped annual safety inspections for personal vehicles in 2025, but an emissions test is still required before registration in the Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, and El Paso areas, and Bexar County (San Antonio) began emissions testing on November 1, 2026. On taxes, keep records of your move date and new address — New York may ask you to show you changed your residence, so it’s worth getting a tax professional’s advice.
Expect long, hot summers, with highs in the mid-to-upper 90s °F from June through September — morning loading and delivery windows help. Houston sits in the Gulf hurricane zone (June–November), and North Texas sees spring hail and severe storms. On the New York end, winter snow along I-81 can slow the first leg. Note the time zone shifts from Eastern to Central (−1 hour).
NYC pickups take more planning than most. Many buildings require a certificate of insurance (COI) and a reserved freight elevator, walk-ups mean stair carries, and parking a large truck on a city block isn’t always possible — in that case we use a smaller shuttle truck. Long Island and Westchester homes are usually simpler driveway loads. Tell your coordinator your building type early and we’ll handle the paperwork.
More Ways We Help
Plenty of New Yorkers move without a car and buy one in Texas, where most metros are car-dependent. If you do have one, open transport on New York to Texas lanes typically runs $900–$1,450 and enclosed transport for luxury or classic vehicles runs $1,400–$2,150, with vehicle transit usually 5–9 days.
Full or partial packing is available, along with short-term storage if your Texas closing falls after your New York lease ends.
Pianos (including walk-up piano carries), pool tables, antiques, artwork, home-gym equipment, and gun safes are handled by experienced crews, with custom crating for fragile or high-value pieces.

FAQs
Full-service moves typically range from about $2,700 for a studio to $15,800+ for a 4+ bedroom home, based on the cubic footage of your inventory and your exact route. Plan on 7–12 business days depending on your Texas city and whether your items travel on a dedicated or consolidated truck. Your coordinator confirms a delivery window before pickup.
Most people save on income tax — Texas has no state income tax, while New York charges up to 10.9% plus NYC local tax. Texas property and sales taxes still apply, so a tax professional can tell you what you’ll actually save.
Dallas suits finance and corporate careers, Houston leads in energy and healthcare, Austin is the tech hub with a strong music scene, and San Antonio is the most affordable, with a large military and medical presence. See “Popular Routes We Cover” above for each city.
Yes. New York is on Eastern Time and Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio are on Central Time — one hour behind.
Not a safety inspection — Texas ended those for personal vehicles in 2025. You will need an emissions test if you register in an emissions county such as Dallas, Harris, Travis, or Bexar, and you have 30 days to register.
Yes. We plan stair carries, COIs, freight-elevator reservations, and shuttle trucks when a full-size trailer can’t park on your block. Share your building details when you book.
Late fall through early spring usually brings the best rates, and mid-month weekday dates cost less than month-end. Spring and fall also avoid the worst of the Texas summer heat.
